The Clear Lake Lakers and Clearwater River Cats had a rough July, achieving only one win between them the last few weeks in a game where they faced each other.
The Lakers were defeated by their Sauk Valley League rivals, the St. Joseph Joes in a close game ending 2-1 in 7 innings.
The Lakers starting pitcher Jordan Golombiecki threw all but 2/3 of the game innings, giving up four hits, two runs, three walks, and recording a strikeout. Offense was led by Tyler Maurer, who scored the team’s loan run and going 1 for 3.
Matt Krepp also went 1 for 3, Brett Knudson went 1 for 2, earning a walk, and Ryan Janzen earned a walk, was hit by a pitch, stole a base, and had a sacrifice.
The Clearwater River Cats were defeated by their Sauk Valley League rivals, the Monticello Polecats in 7 innings 13-3.

The Lakers’ game against league foe Clearwater River Cats resulted in a win for the team, 10-7, backed by 14 hits and aided by 12 walks.
Ryan Skymanski started on the mound, throwing seven innings to earn the win. He gave up 10 hits, five runs, one walk, and recorded two strikeouts. Mike Smith closed out the game with two innings in relief, giving up four hits, two runs, one walk, and recording one strikeout.

The River Cats next game against the Sartell Stone Ponies also ended in defeat, but the game ended with a much closer score, 3-1. Starting pitcher Cory Schmidt threw 6 1/3 innings, giving up nine hits, three runs, three walks, and recording four strikeouts.
Offense was led by Ty Carper, going 1 for 4 for an RBI, and Callan Henkemeyer, going 1 for 4 with a double. Jack Carper and Jordan Picka both went 1 for 4, and Zach Schmidt earned a walk and scored the team’s lone run. Cole Gueningsman earned two walks, and Cory Schmidt earned one walk.
