Becker’s Luke Lahr finished 91st with a time of 16:48.9 in last Saturday’s state cross country tournament at St. Olaf.
“It was a great experience for Luke on Saturday and he ran well,” said Head Coach Trish Reimer-Kealy.
The boys Class AA race was won by Wayzata with 47 (repeating as champions) to Hopkins (second) and Stillwater (third) with 87s. Their tie was broken by the sixth place runner.
Class A boys was won by Granite Ridge Conference team Mora. The girls Class AA was won by Wayzata for the third time in as many years. Their score was 65 to Edina’s 94 and Willmar’s 96. The Class A girls champion was Trinity School at River Ridge.
“The state meet is a very exciting event and quite an honor to be a participant in,” said Reimer-Kealy. “Luke represented our school very well and has had a wonderful high school career. It has been great to be able to work with him, watching him develop through the years and we will miss him next year. I know he will go on to have a promising college career and we wish him luck.”
Awards Night
The boys and girls CC teams held their awards night Tuesday in the high school commons. They had a pot-luck style banquet.
Many awards were handed out including Most Valuable: boys - Luke Lahr, girls - Alli Hendrickson; Most Dedicated: boys- Lahr, girls - Hendrickson; Most improved: boys - Keith Sorensen, girls - Jada Rositas; Rookie of the Year: Lexi Dehmer.
The Scholar Athletes were Sydney Mastey and Sam Somrock; All Conference: Lahr, Hendrickson, Dehmer and Mastey; All Conference Honorable Mention: Tate Spinner and Rositas.
All Conference Academic: Mastey, Shannon Sydow, Siera Knick, Lahr, Nathan Sydow and Somrock; Academic All State: Lahr.
The boys team won the MSHSCA Silver Academic Award.
Letter Winners: Mastey, Lahr, Nathan Sydow, Sam Kirchner, Shannon Sydow, Knick, Caleb Foster, Olsen Pancoast, Somrock, Rositas, Dylan Gruba, Keith Sorensen, Devin Winter, Haley Benda, Hendrickson, Renee Tripp, Ellie Schwartz, Jonathan Novak, Alli Garding, Victoria Kolbinger, Spinner, Makenna Noaeill and Dehmer.
Highlights of the season were Luke Lahr making it to the state meet; Becker’s all conference runners; the girls winning the Granite Ridge Conference meet; the boys placing second in the Rockford meet; hosting the conference meet and running the team’s new course.
“We are excited about the new members of the team this year,” said the head coach.
Seniors graduating are; Lahr, Nathan Sydow, Kirchner and Sydney Mastey.
“These are some great kids who have been with us since junior high,” said Reimer-Kealy. “They have been a big part of Becker CC and have each contributed significantly. We will really miss them next year and hope they have success in their futures.”
“We appreciate all the support we received this year,” she continued. “The school and activities department, Mr. Dave Niemi and Jesse O'Neill are fantastic and our parents have really been there for our team all year. We also want to thank the Becker Community Center and the Pebble Creek Golf Course for their support with our home meets.”
