Lady Bulldogs Shoot Down Cardinals

The Becker Lady Bulldogs defeated the Annandale Cardinals by a score of 73-57 in a non-conference game this past Tuesday at home, to boost their overall record to 17-2.

The loss by Annandale moves the Cardinals to 15-3 on the season.  Annandale remains the top rated team in class AA according to the QRF rankings which are used to place section teams at playoff time.

Annandale was led by D1 recruit, Hannah Purcell, who is headed to DePaul next Fall.  She scored 26 points and notched 14 rebounds.

“She dominated the boards and is a really physically strong player,” said Becker Head Coach Dan Baird.  “She's the best post player we've faced this season I'd have to say.”

Becker was led in scoring by Adeline Kent, who scored 21 points by attacking the basket with her patented runners in the lane.

“Addy really put a lot of pressure on Annandale's defense all night,” said Baird.

Courtney Nuest also had an excellent game with 18 points, five rebounds, and zero turnovers.  Nuest  shot 6-of-11 from the field and 4-for-4 from the charity stripe.

Julia Bengtson continued her excellent play with 16 points, six rebounds, and six steals.

The Bulldogs committed just six turnovers — a season low — and forced Annandale into 21 turnovers.  Becker shot 49%  from the floor and the Cardinals shot 40%.

“I am very pleased with the way we played,” said Baird.  “Our concentration and attention to detail was excellent in this contest.  We executed well, despite all the days off due to inclement weather.”

Baird said  he and his coaching staff are very proud of the girls after this contest.

“We played really well as a team, against an excellent program in Annandale, who is coached by Matt Dreier,” said Baird.  “This local rivalry will be fun in the coming years, with both our teams very talented at the lower levels.”
