Lady Bulldogs Go 4 0 In Four Games This Past Week

The Becker Lady Bulldogs girls softball team went 4-0 this past week to improve to 10-0.

Becker 10, Zimmerman 0
Thursday afternoon, Becker traveled to Zimmerman and came away with a 10-0 in five innings.

The Bulldogs jumped out on top right away with three runs in the top of the first.  Hailey Fitzpatrick scored the first run of the game on an error and Haley Harmon followed with a double to put runners at second and third.  Lindsey Lorette then had a great at bat and drilled a ball of the fence in right center, which scored the two runners.

In the top of the second, Becker added two more runs with the big hit being an Ellie Schwartz double.

Four more Bulldog runs crossed the plate in the third when Erika Schwartz and Harmon each singled. Alexa Hanowski had a great at bat and drove a two-strike pitch for a double to left center field to score Schwartz and Harmon.  Later in the inning, Payton Williams singled up the middle to bring home two more runs.

In the top of the fifth, the Bulldogs scored their final run when Ellie Schwartz walked to lead off the inning and came in to score on a ground out.

Harmon brought her “A” game to the mound on her 18th birthday and limited the Thunder to just one hit and one walk in five innings.  She struck out eight batters and moved her record to 6-0 on the season.

“This was easily the most complete game that we have played,” said Head Coach Jason Baune.  “Our offense had great at bats and came up with some big two-out hits.  Our defense was great and Haley (Harmon) and Sam (Lorette) did a great job of calling pitches and executing them.”

Becker’s record is now 10-0 on the season and  9-0 in the Granite Ridge Conference.

Becker 10, Little Falls 0
Monday night, Becker hosted Little Falls and came away with a 10-0 win in six innings.

Becker took a big lead in the bottom of the second with a walk, two Flyer errors and four Bulldog hits that led to six runs.  Payton Williams had an RBI double and Hailey Fitzpatrick followed with a two-RBI single in the inning.

The Bulldogs added two more runs in the fourth with the big hit being an RBI single by Lindsey Lorette.

A single run scored in the bottom of the fifth to make the score 9-0 and an RBI double by Lindsey Lorette scored Brianna Corey from first base to make the final 10-0.

Leading hitters were Lindsey Lorette, who was 3-3 with a double and two RBIs; Fitzpatrick was 1-3 with two RBIs and Sam Lorette was 1-3 with two RBIs.

Haley Harmon picked up the win on the mound going five innings, giving up two hits, zero walks and notching eight strikeouts.  Corey came on to pitch the final inning and gave up zero hits, zero walks and had one strikeout.

Becker 3, 12 Cathedral 1, 2
Tuesday, Becker hosted St. Cloud Cathedral in a doubleheader and came away with a sweep.

Game one remained a tight ballgame throughout with Becker threatening with the bases loaded and nobody out in the first two innings, only to push across one run early on.

Cathedral evened the score at 1-1 with three straight singles in the third but Becker answered back in the bottom of the inning when Erika Schwartz hit her second home run of the season to make the score 2-1.  Lindsey Lorette followed with a double and came in to score on a wild pitch.

Despite a few more scoring chances in later innings, neither team put up another run and the final was 3-1.

Corey picked up the win, going all seven innings and allowing seven hits.  She struck out three and didn't walk a batter.

Game two was a higher scoring affair as the host team was able to plate three runs in the top of the first inning.  Sam Lorette drove in a run with a triple to deep right field.  Haley Harmon also added an RBI double later in the inning.

Becker added four more runs in the top of the fourth to make the score 7-0.  Ellie Schwartz drove in a run and showed some base running smarts later in the inning as the Crusaders threw a wild pitch that allowed Mckenzie Demant to score from third and when they didn't pay attention to Schwartz, she also came in to score all the way from second base.

The score became 9-0 in the fourth inning when Sydney Lamott drove in two runs with a double.

The Crusaders put up a run in the bottom of the inning to make the score 9-1.

In the top of the sixth, Becker scored three more runs with the final run scoring on a Payton Williams single.

Harmon picked up the win, going  all six innings and allowing two runs.  She gave up six hits, walked one and struck out six.

Becker’s leading hitters were Sam Lorette, who was 3-6 with an RBI; Schwartz, who was 4-5, with three runs scored and an RBI and Alexa Hanowski, who was 3-7 with three runs scored.

Next week, Becker has four games as they host Milaca Monday, Monticello Tuesday, travel to Albany Thursday, then come home for a game against Buffalo Friday.
