Lacrosse Team Takes One On The Chin From Spartans

The Becker girls lacrosse team suffered a loss in their first game of the year Tuesday against a very tough Orono team.

Final score was 19-13.

Senior Co-Captain Courtney Fobbe started the attack early, scoring the first goal of the season at 23:19. She finished with two goals in the game.

Orono battled back and the score stayed tight for quite awhile, until the Spartans pulled away for good.

Freshman goalie Kelsi Halvorson fought hard between the pipes with some very nice saves to keep the Bulldogs in the match, but the Spartans had too much firepower. They took 24 shots on goal and converted 19 of them.

Besides Fobbe, Becker had eight different girls scoring on offense including two goals from Mckenzie Opgenorth and Katie Pursley, one goal each from  Sydney Benda, Brooklyn Beutz and Daisy Kent. Senior Brandy Watercott was Becker’s leading scorer with four goals on seven shots.

The Bulldogs finished with 22 shots on goal.

Becker’s next game is Thursday at Monticello.

A special thanks to all of the fans that showed up to cheer the girls on in not-so-nice weather.
