Lacrosse Team Stays Unbeaten With Two More Wins

The Becker boys lacrosse team remained undefeated as they beat two solid teams this past week to improve to 7-0.'

Becker 10, St. Paul 9

Tyler Kruse led the Bulldogs again with six points (three goals, three assists) as Becker pulled out an overtime victory over St. Paul Wednesday night on the road.

The teams volleyed back-and-forth with the leads and as each quarter concluded, the other team was right there within striking distance in Becker’s closest match of the year.

At the close of the first period, the two teams were tied 1-1 and goalie Dana Slominski helped keep the game tight by recording several key saves to keep it close. By halftime, Becker had a wee 3-2 lead in the tight-defensive style game.

Becker came out and score three more goals in the third period, but St. Paul did one better by scoring four to end the period tied at 6-6. Predictably, the two teams battled to a 3-3 tie in the fourth period to send the game to OT.

The Bulldogs finished the contest with a goal in the extended session.

Becker outshot St. Paul 27 to 21 with Slominski making 12 saves in the win. Kruse had 10 of the 27 shots for Becker.

Also scoring for Becker were Milan Kent (three goals, one assist), Ethan Boutin (three goals) and Ben Gilchrist (one goal).

Jesse Rice was St. Paul’s leading scorer with four goals and one assist.

Becker 16, NCA 3

The Bulldogs throttled New Century Academy at home Friday afternoon as they poured 34 shots on goal against two goalies in the 13-point win.

Kruse continued to lead the team in scoring, netting four goals and assisting on two others. He had eight shots on goal.

Also scoring for Becker were Cole Neu (three goals), Boutin (two goals, two assists), Gilchrist (two goals, one assist), Isaiah Rathbun (one goal), Cortland Martin (one goal, one assist), Cale MacMillan (one goal), Zack Vieau (one goal, one assist) and Kent (one goal, three assists).

NCA’s Jansen Weckman played the first 12 minutes in goal and faced eight shots with five hitting the net behind him. Riley Drew came on in relief and didn’t have any better luck as he faced 26 shots and gave up nine goals in the Becker rout.

The Bulldogs faced off against St. Cloud North Friday night in Sartell (full report on game in next week’s Citizen), then play Sunday at home against Grand Rapids, Monday at home against Waconia and Wednesday on the road against Hudson.
