Lacrosse Team Goes 1 1 To Open Season

The Becker Bulldog boys lacrosse team played two matches this week. They lost their first match of the season Monday to Sartell, then beat Coon Rapids Thursday.

On a beautiful evening Monday, the Becker boys lacrosse team hosted the Sartell-St. Stephens Sabres and fell by three in a closely-played match.
 
For most of the first half, the teams traded goals and play was fluid. Sartell would eventually pull away by a couple goals, then held off the Bulldogs down the stretch to gain the victory.
Seniors Senior Zack Olson-Burkman and Cale MacMillan  led the Bulldogs with two goals apiece. Senior Brett Reichle tallied one goal and junior Blake Angell had one goal and two assists and sophomore Jacob Berning had one goal and one assist.
 
Junior goaltender Tanner Pieper had 16 saves.
 
Becker’s JV squad tied their match with Sartell-St. Stephen, 3-3.

Thursday in the cold, cruddy weather, the Bulldogs exploded for 14 goals and dominated the match with the Cardinals.
 
Berning was on fire, tallying five goals in the big win. Olson-Burkman added three goals and Reichle had two goals and two assists. MacMillan figured in the scoring with two goals and senior Alex Nelson notched his first goal along with sophomore Corbin Kollar.
 
Pieper had 18 saves on 23 shots.
 
The Bulldog JV team beat the Cardinals in their game, 6-4.
 
“It was a tough loss against Sartell,” said Head Coach Paul VanVoorhis. “We made some adjustments on Tuesday and Wednesday that paid off.”

The Bulldogs played Rocori Friday at home (full report on match in next week’s Citizen-Tribune). Monday, they host Buffalo, Tuesday they host Monticello and Friday they host STMA. All matches are scheduled for 6:30 p.m.
