SOPHOMORE JACOB BERNING notched four goals in two games as the Bulldog boys lacrosse team improved to 3-2 on the season.

Lacrosse Team Goes 1 1 This Week

The Becker Bulldog boys lacrosse team played two matches this week and had one postponement. Their record is 3-2.

Becker 7, Rocori 6
The Bulldogs hosted the Rocori Spartans last Friday and pulled out a one-goal win.

“This was an exciting game,” said Head Coach Paul VanVoorhis.

Becker found themselves down by three goals in the fourth quarter and  battled back to tie the game 6-6 in the waning minutes.  With 13 seconds left, Senior Cale Macmillan scored the winning goal.

Zack Olson-Burkman had four goals to lead the Bulldogs. MacMillan, Jacob Berning, Corbin Kollar and Brett Reichle each had one goal and goalie Tanner Pieper had seven saves.

Monticello 10, Becker 9 (OT)
The Bulldogs took on the Magic at home Tuesday and lost a heartbreaker, 10-9 in overtime.

Similar to the game against Rocori, the Bulldogs at one point were down by three goals and eventually came back to tie the game.  Becker possessed the ball for most of the overtime period and had several shots on goal.

In the end, Monticello had a breakaway and scored the sudden victory goal to the disappointment of the Bulldogs and their fans.

“One interesting thing we discovered in this game was the ability of freshman Jack Jones to become an excellent face-off man,” said VanVoorhis.  “Jack took 16 face-offs in his first varsity contest and won seven of them.  That is pretty impressive for a freshman considering he is facing upper classman.”

Olson-Burkman led the team again with five goals.  Berning added three goals and Blake Angell one.

Pieper had 18 saves.
