JUNIOR MIDFIELDER ALLIE ZIMMER (M) easily navigated the Rocori defense and helped her team reach double-digits in scoring in their first match of the season.

Lacrosse Team Annihilates Rocori, 18 3

The Becker Bulldog  girl’s lacrosse team kicked off their 2017 season with a scoring fest, beating the  Rocori Spartans, 18 - 3 at home Tuesday night.

Rocori, a new team in the MSHSL, showed their inexperience on both sides of the field as Becker’s players weaved through defenders as if their feet were glued to the ground.

Despite the dominance, the game muddled through for the first six minutes until Becker got on the board first when freshman Anna Ritchie flinged a blistering shot by the Spartan goalie.

Rocori score the second goal when Becker’s defense allowed Rocori to get inside the arc and shoot a close range shot on goal.

After  that, it was all Becker as the Bulldogs scored eight more times to bring the score to 9 - 1 at half time.

In the second half, Becker Head Coach Hugh Hovde did a lot of substituting and worked his team on their offensive schemes, feeding the ball to the girl who was cutting.

“Two goals that stood out were Hanna Bentgson feeding the ball from behind the net to Kinsley Hurt who slammed it home,” said Hovde. “The other was Rachel Eisenriech going low thru traffic to shovel the ball into Rocori’s net.”

“It was a fun game,” said Junior Eisenreich. “It was nice to start the season with a win, but we still have stuff to work on.”

“Yeah, we are passing so much better this year, but we still have room for improvement,” said Captain Brookelyn Beutz.

Captain goalie Kelsi Halvorson — who finished fifth-best in the state last year —said, “I thought our defense did a good job crashing in on the ball.”
