Jurek Achieves 75th Wrestling Career Win

 
The Becker Bulldogs wrestling team went on the road again last week, traveling to meets at Little Falls  Jan. 17 and to Chisago Lakes the next day.
 
The team played well at both meets, defeating both teams at their duals meet in Little Falls and coming home with 10 place winners, including four champions, in the Chisago Lakes tournament.
 
Senior Logan Jurek continued his winning streak, achieving his 75th career win at the Little Falls meet last Thursday. Jurek received his 50th career win during the 2017-2018 wrestling season, as well as being named an all-conference winner. He also had the team’s most reversals with 14.
 
Little Falls
 
After defeating both Little Falls and Brainerd at the duals meet on the 17th, the Bulldogs were 15-1 for their overall record and 3-0 in the conference.
 
Matched against Little Falls, the team came out on top 54-25; the match against Brainerd came in a little tighter, with the Bulldogs winning 39-28. 
 
In the 106 lbs. division, Kaden Rish was taken down in a fall at 4:34 in a tough match against his Little Falls opponent. Ethan Duncombe also wrestled strongly but was overcome by his Brainerd opponent in a fall at 5:44.
 
Ethan Anderson (113 lbs.) defeated both his opponents in falls, the first at 1:01 and the second at :49. 
 
Wrestling at 120 lbs., Mason Doucette took down his first opponent in a quick fall at :49, but lost to his Brainerd opponent in a major decision (4-0) after a tough fight.
 
Becker continued its lead against Little Falls, with Jake Nelson (126 lbs.) and Lukas Paulson (132 lbs.) winning their matches, Nelson with a fall at :49 and Paulson with a forfeit (6-0). The two also overcame their Brainerd opponents, Nelson with a decision (3-0) and Paulson with a fall at 1:50.
 
Adam Jurek (138 lbs.) won his Little Falls match with a forfeit (6-0), but was defeated by his Brainerd opponent in a decision after a hard fight (3-0).
 
Logan Jurek and Alexander Berglund both wrestled in the 145 lbs. and 152 lbs. divisions during the meet. Against Little Falls, Jurek, wrestling at 145 lbs., took down his opponent in a fall at :58, however, Berglund lost to his Brainerd opponent in the same division with a decision (3-0).
 
Both defeated their opponents at 152 lbs., with Jurek winning in a decision (3-0) and Berglund with a fall at 2:35.
 
At 160 lbs., Kylen Rish took down both his opponents in falls, the first at 1:16 and the second at 3:50.
 
Caden Dewall (170 lbs.) lost his first match in a decision (3-0), but came back in his second to take down his Brainerd opponent in a fall at 3:47.
 
Becker lost the next two divisions, with Lincoln Carlson (182 lbs.) losing to his Little Falls opponent in a fall at :38 and then with a forfeit to Brainerd (6-0), and with Reid Kraus (195 lbs.) defeated by his Little Falls opponent in a major decision (4-0) followed by another forfeit to Brainerd (6-0).
 
At 220 lbs., Brayden Weber overcame both his opponents, the first in a fall at :59 and the second in a decision (3-0).
 
In the final division, Lakken Braun (285 lbs.) fought hard but was taken down in a fall at :50 by his Little Falls opponent. He won against Brainerd with a forfeit (6-0).
 
Chisago Lakes
 
The Bulldogs again fought well at the Chisago Lakes Takedown Cancer Tournament, coming in third with 105 points after being edged out for second place by C-E-C Lumberjacks with 117 points. First place went to Anoka with 181.5 points.
 
Out of 10 Bulldogs place winners, four athletes emerged champions in their division, Jake Nelson (126 lbs.), Lukas Paulson (132 lbs.), Caden Dewall (160 lbs.) and Brayden Weber (220 lbs.).
 
Three wrestlers were awarded second place; Logan Jurek (145 lbs.), Kylen Rish (152 lbs.) and Lincoln Carlson (182 lbs.).
 
Third place was won by Reid Krause in the 182 lbs. division, and fifth places were awarded to Dylan Riedinger (113 lbs.) and Lakken Braun (285 lbs.).

The Bulldogs wrestlers have a busy upcoming week, with an invitational at South St. Paul Jan. 26, a meet at Milaca Jan. 29, and a Quadrangular at Paynesville Feb. 1.
