Johnson wins club championship

Zach Johnson led wire to wire to win the Pebble Creek Men’s Club Championship held August 28-29, dancing around rain showers.

Johnson claimed the day one lead with and even par 72. Chad Mathews was one stroke back and Spencer Hinrichs and Joe Sauer finished day one both three strokes back with 75s. On the second 18, not much changed as everyone shot 73 other than Joe Sauer, who dropped one stroke with a 74.

Mathews tied Johnson on the first hole of the final nine to pull even but Johnson birdied hole number two to take back the lead and put a string a pars together to seal the victory with a score of two over par. Sauer birdied the final hole to tie last years champion, Hinrichs, for second at four over for the tournament. Mathews ran into a couple of double bogeys on the final nine and fell to fourth at six over par.

In the net flights Greg Mattson overcame three double bogeys on par five’s to finish two over and win the first flight.

Mark Dunderi fired a five under 67 on day one and held on Sunday to beat Warren Johnson by one stroke at three under to win the second flight.

Dan Olson leveled the field shooting under par both days running away with the third flight at five under par.

Jim Anderson continued his hot year shooting two under Saturday and held on Sunday edging Mike Doering by one stroke to win the fourth flight.
