Huskies start year with a win

The Big Lake-Princeton boy’s lacrosse team won their season opener 11-10 over Brainerd.

Holding a 7-4 advantage at the half, the Huskies were able to withstand a third-quarter rally by the Warriors to secure the win in the fourth.

Jack Midas and Landon Bagne each scored four goals to lead the team, followed closely by Beau McCrone with three. Hank Kuchera earned the win in net by stopping 16 of 26 shots on goal. John Westvig and Midas led the team with eight ground balls each.

Despite the win, head coach Brad Weber still sees areas for growth with the team, specifically in the transition game, ground balls, and avoiding penalties. The team is looking forward to better weather and more opportunities to practice outside.

This week will see the team have two more opportunities to compete and improve. The Huskies travel to Monticello on Thursday and then play at Becker next Tuesday.
