Huskies pick up 1st win against SSR

The Big Lake/Princeton/Spectrum girls’ lacrosse team defeated Sartell/Sauk Rapids 19-4 last Friday for their first win of the season. It was a dominant performance start to finish for the Huskies. They led 6-2 after the first quarter and 12-2 at halftime. 

Three different players scored goals in the first quarter including Sloane Griesert, Kaelyn Besler, and Ashley Balken. They found the back of the net early and helped the team build a four-goal advantage after one quarter. The offense kept rolling in the second, as the Huskies scored six more goals. This time it was Melanie Cano, Emma Gresichar, Besler, and Griesert scoring for the Huskies. 

The team would extend their lead in the second half, scoring seven more times and allowing two late goals to make the final 19-4. Keren Cortez-Sanchez, Layla Aasen, Hvsotte Yahola, Griesert, Balken, and Besler all scored goals in the second half. 

Griesert led the team with six goals while Besler scored four and added two assists. Balken, Aasen, and Cano had two goals each. Cortez-Sanchez and Yahola each had two assists. 

This week the team has three games starting with a road contest on Thursday at Becker. Then they will host Brainerd on Friday before travelling to Blaine next Monday.
