Huskies end season with loss to Warriors

The Big Lake/Princeton/Spectrum girls’ lacrosse team lost 13-9 in the opening round of the Section 8A playoffs Tuesday night against the Brainerd Warriors.

Brainerd got out to a 6-2 lead at the end of the first quarter, but the Huskies were able to play them even the rest of the game. Sloane Griesert scored both the goals for the team in the opening quarter. She added another in the second, and the Huskies trailed 9-3 at halftime.

But the team was able to regroup during the break and came out hot in the third quarter. The Huskies scored three unanswered goals to pull closer. Kaelyn Besler scored twice and Griesert scored the other. Trailing 10-6 heading into the final quarter, the Huskies needed a comeback to keep their season alive. They would get close, but the Warriors pulled away late for a 13-9 victory.

Despite the loss, Besler set the program record for points in a season with 36 this year. She scored 31 goals and added five assists. This was also the third game of the season that Griesert scored six goals or more.

The team completed their regular season last Friday with a 13-3 loss to Osseo/Park Center. Besler scored two goals and Griesert scored one. Emersen Ruhland had an assist.

And last Thursday the Huskies lost 15-5 to St. Cloud. Griesert scored three times while Besler and Keren Cortez-Sanchez scored once. Besler and Bailey Dahlke each had one assist.
