Athletes of the year in all sports will be announced at the annual Times Media Sports Awards event, which is June 21 at the College of St. Benedict.

 

Three area gymnasts — two from Melrose and one from St. Cloud Tech — were named finalists for gymnast of the year and they include Kayla Austing and Mady Brinkman of Melrose and Allison Seehusen of Tech.

 

Hubbard, a senior, has been a varsity letter winner since the seventh grade. She is also a five-time all-conference selection, helping lead the Bulldogs to this year’s state team tournament, where they took sixth in Class A. 

 

Hubbard is a four-time state individual qualifier and a three-time section champ in floor where she scored a 9.575 this season. Hubbard has been described as being durable and dependable by her coach, Jen Harmoning.

 

“Hubbard has missed one practice in six years,” she said.

 

Despite having broken toes, Haley competed and took 19th at state in floor  last month (9.375)  and was an honorable-mention on last year's all-area team.

 

The other gymnasts named to the All-Area team are: Lara Aycock (Tech) and Abigail Weber (Sartell).

 

Becker’s Miranda O’Brien was named  honorable mention for the all-area team along with six others.
