Hornets take down Elks

The Big Lake girls’ flag football team went on the road last Sunday and defeated the Elk River Elks 18-6 in a defensive battle. Shiloh Elliot scored twice for the team in the win.

In a game that didn’t feature much scoring, the Hornets were still able to have a balanced offensive attack. Seven different players caught passes for the team including Elliot, Lauren Barthel, Allie Lu, Mya Knapp, Kamrynn Tschritter, Alivia Voss, and Tatum White. Knapp led the team with 50 receiving yards followed closely by Barthel with 45.

Katie Chaffee and Amara Obia split time at quarterback with Chaffee throwing for 135 yards and Obia throwing for 55 yards and a touchdown.

Defensively, Lu and Alayna Boe each snagged an interception to help limit the Elks to just one score.

Vs. Anoka

In the other game of the day Big Lake lost 59-6 to Anoka. Elliot scored the only touchdown for the team and added five catches for 85 yards. The Hornet defense struggled to contain their opponent’s passing attack as Anoka threw for 322 yards.
