Hornets suffer filthy loss to Orono

With more schools moving to turf fields, the classic “mud bowl” is becoming a rare sight—but that’s exactly what Big Lake had last Friday night at home against Orono.

Unfortuantely, the Hornets fell to the Spartans, 48-6.

Big Lake’s only TD came in the second quarter when QB Dillon Spaeth found receiver Montell Hester on a 70-yard score to make the tally, 34-6. Spaeth would end up with 96 yards through the air on five-of-11 passing and one interception. Hester gained -2 yards on four carries and had the one catch for 70 yards and the touchdown.

Carter Stromberg rushed the ball for 47 yards on 13 carries and also had two catches for 14 yards in the loss.

On defense, Trevor Couch had six tackles while Abe Nebo had seven.

Big Lake is set to take on their familiar foe Delano at 7 p.m. on Friday.
