Hornets split two games with STMA

The Big Lake Hornets Legion baseball team defeated STMA’s #1 team, 4-1 last Wednesday in the first game of a doubleheader on the road. Unfortunately, they couldn’t complete the sweep against STMA’s #2 team, losing by 10 in the nightcap.

The Hornets got things started in the first inning scoring one run when Will Boeckman singled. They followed that up with a run in the fifth and two in the sixth to pull out the win.

Zeus Schlegel took the win on the mound for the Hornets. He allowed zero hits and one run over six innings, striking out seven. Zach Robeck threw one inning in relief out of the bullpen, recording the last three outs to earn the save for Big Lake.

Schee took the loss for STMA 1. He went five innings, allowing two runs on six hits and striking out three.

Preston Schlegel went 2-for-3 at the plate to lead the Hornets in hits. Big Lake was sure-handed and didn’t commit a single error. Boeckman made the most plays with 10.

Neros led STMA 1 with one hit in two at bats. STMA 1 was errorless.

Olson had 10 chances in the field, the most on the STMA team.

It was a tough second game of the doubleheader as STMA #2 pounded out eight hits and 10 runs to beat the Hornets Wednesday evening.

A single by Preston Schlegel in the first inning and another by Samson Schlegel later on were all the positiveness for the Hornets.

Carroll earned the win for STMA 2, lasting five innings, allowing two hits and zero runs while striking out eight and walking zero.

Brandon Stern took the loss for Big Lake He went two-and-a-third innings, allowing four runs on three hits and striking out two.

STMA 2 racked up eight hits in the game with Amundson and Foquette each having multiple hits for STMA 2.

The Hornets consist of Dylan Robeck, Chandler Nagorski, Chad Boeckman, Zach Robeck, Josh Hunt, Samson Schlegel, Zeus Schlegel, Will Boeckman, Keenan Hjermstad, Preston Schlegel, Nolan Reiter and Brandon Stern.

They are coached by Robert Hoekstra.

The Hornets hosted Becker Tuesday with a 6 p.m. start. They then traveled to Monticello Thursday.

Next week, the Hornets host the St. Cloud Chutes, then hit the road to Becker Tuesday and Princeton Thursday. All games are at 6 p.m.
