The Big Lake wrestling team was eliminated from the Section 6AA Team Tournament competition in the quarterfinals last Thursday at Maple Lake High School.
The #7 Hornets won in the preliminary round against #10 Sauk Rapids-Rice, 54-16, but fell to #2 Annandale/Maple Lake, 51-20.

Against Sauk Rapids Rice, the Hornets jumped out to an early lead. Hayden Bessette (107 pounds) and Grant Volk (114) both won by forfeit.
At 121, Elijah Schaller beat Carter Barz by major decision, 12-1 to give the Hornets a 16-0 lead.
Bryce Ness put the Storm on the board with a 16-3 major decision over Gavin Jones at 127 pounds.
At 133, Cash Stortz of the Hornets pinned Daniel Ford at 0:20.
Carter Pesta of Sauk Rapids pinned Alex Omann at 2:40 at 139 pounds to close the gap to 22-10.
Big Lake won the next two weight classes by forfeit: William Hess (145) and Dallas Sibbet (152).
At 160, Cooper Cusick beat Nathan Lieser by tech fall, 15-0.
Caleb Smith extended Big Lake’s lead with a 15-5 major decision over Christian Nelson at 172 pounds.
At 189, Carson Gellerman beat Isaac Thiele by tech fall, 22-5.
Chris Smith of the Storm pinned Liam Mayer at 5:55 at 215 pounds.
At 285, Austin Frederickson of the Hornets pinned Taylin Nahouakhong at 2:45 to end the preliminary round.

The Hornets won four of 13 matches in their loss to the Annandale/Maple Lake Lightning.
At 114, Grant Volk beat Marshall Hall by major decision, 13-0.
At 133, Cash Stortz pinned Ryan Fischer at 1:57.
At 152, Dallas Sibbet beat A.J. Bogatzki by tech fall, 23-6.
At 189, Carson Gellerman beat Sebastian Meyer by tech fall, 18-3.
Annandale/Maple Lake went on to beat #3 Howard Lake-Waverly Winsted, 35-32 in the semifinals. They lost to Becker, 46-18 in the championship match. The Bulldogs are headed to the state tournament as a team.
The Hornets are competing in the individual sections this Friday and Saturday at Dassel-Cokato. First and second place finishers in each weight class move on to the state meet.
Individuals compete Thursday and Friday for a chance at the state tournament.
