The Hornets travelled to Princeton last Thursday and left with a thrilling 3-2 victory over the Tigers.
Princeton took the first set 25-21, before Big Lake responded with a convincing 25-14 victory to even the match at 1-1. The next two sets were back and forth. The Hornets took the lead with a 25-23 win, but the Tigers staved off defeat a little longer with a 25-21 win to force a fifth and final set. However, the Hornets cruised to a 15-9 win to take the set and the match.
Emma Nagorski was dominant on offense and defense throughout the five sets. She filled up the stat sheet with a team-high 13 kills, 10 digs, and seven blocks. Also posting a great all-around match was Jazlynn Dimpka. She put her passing on display with 14 set assists, 11 digs, and seven kills. Leading the team in both assists and digs was Ashley Fitzgibbons with 19 assists and 15 digs. Madison Reed added 11 digs and five kills and Izzy Moudry had nine digs, eight kills, and two blocks.
Earlier this week the Hornets returned home for matches against Sauk Rapids-Rice and Zimmerman. Big Lake was swept 3-0 in both matches but didn’t make it easy on their opponents. The third set against Sauk Rapids went long as the Hornets fought to end before losing 29-27. And all three sets against the Thunder were battles with scores of 25-21, 25-23, and 27-25.
The team will travel to Dassel-Cokato this Saturday for a tournament before heading to St. Francis next Tuesday.
