The Big Lake track and field team had some good performances over the past two weeks.
Big Lake Invite
At a Big Lake Invitational triangular meet last week, Jack Leuer took first in the 400 meters in 53.12 seconds. He came back later and cruised to victory in the 800 meters in 2:05.26. A week earlier he won the event in 1:58.64.
Abe Nebo won the long jump with a leap of 21’11”.
Gavin Flavin won the 1600 meters in 4:46.44, with teammate Trent Erickson two steps behind in second in 4:46.66.
Montell Hester finished third in the 100 meters in 11.63 seconds and third in the 200 meters in 24.10. Abe Nebo was fourth in 24.21.
Jackson Roehl was third in the 110 meter hurdles in 17.12.
Jerry Vazquez finished third in the high jump at 5’10”.
Evan Blackman threw the shot put 40’1” to take fifth.
For the girls, Leah Uphoff won the 100 meter hurdles in 17.24 seconds, with Alivia Voss second in 17.33. Uphoff was second in the 300 hurdles in 51.33.
Naomi Huizenga won the triple jump at 33’7.5” with Uphoff second at 32”11”.
Erin Kjellberg was second in the 400 meters in 1:06.95
Campbell Slattery took third in the 1600 meters in 6:01.19.
Tayla Gassman went 31.35 seconds in the 100 meter wheelchair event, threw the shot put 18’1” and the discus 38’2”.
Huizenga finished third in the 800 meters in 2:54.69.
Britta White placed fourth in the long jump at 14’10”.
Shiloh Elliot had the best finish for Big Lake in the 100 meters, placing fifth in 13.84 seconds.
Triangular
At a triangular meet on April 8, the Hornet boys did well in the distance events. Big Lake swept the 1600 meters behind Judd Layton (4:48.3), Trent Erickson (4:51.7) and Eli Henning (5:01.1).
Gavin Flavin crossed the finish line in first in the 3200 meters in 10:24.58. Two days later he ran 10:09.98 to move into 10th place all time on the school’s Top 10 list.
Montell Hester placed second in the 100 meters in 11.8 seconds.
Maurice Yekeku was second in the 400 meters in 56.6.
Precieux Sanguma took second in the 110 hurdles in 17.8 seconds and third in the 300 hurdles in 45.60.
Jerry Vazquez cleared 5’8” in the high jump to take second.
Evan Blackman threw the shot put 39’2” and finished second.
Parker Spaeth was third in the pole vault at eight feet even.
The 4x100 relay team of Josh Dupre, Abe Nebo, Mason Phelps and Montell Hester finished second in 46.1 seconds.
Theo Johnson had Big Lake’s best finish in the 800 meters, placing fourth in 2:20.1.
Bennett Thieke was fourth in the long jump (17’11.5”) and triple jump (33’6”).
For the girls, Campbell Slattery won the 1600 meters in 5:57.70.
In the triple jump, Leah Uphoff won the event with a leap of 32’4.5,” with teammate Naomi Huizenga second just a half inch behind.
Alivia Voss took second in the 100 meter hurdles in 17.3 seconds, with Uphoff fourth in 17.8. Voss also ran 30.3 in the 200 meters to take fifth.
Greta Schwirtz finished second in the shot put (28’8”) and discus (76’2”). Britta Vagle also broke 70 feet in the discus (71’7”) and placed fourth.
Erin Kjellberg was third in the 400 meters in 1:07.60, with Addison Holmen fourth in 1:10.69.
Britta White placed fifth in the 300 hurdles (59.80) and 100 hurdles (18.2).
The 4x400 relay team of Kjellberg, Emily Edlund, Huizenga and Uphoff finished third in 4:27.
