Hornet gymnasts take 2nd at Cambridge

The Big Lake Hornet girls gymnastics team held their first meet was last Thursday (Jan. 21) at Cambridge Isanti High School.

Their varsity team lost 132.85 to CI’s 140.675. Their JV team won 128.5 to 127.2.

Being that it was their first meet coming off an eight week break prior to starting up, Hornet Co-Coach Lanny Goldsmith felt like his kids performed well.

“Especially given the unusual circumstances to start this season,” he said. “I thought our girls did a nice job on floor and bars but left a lot of room for improvement on vault and beam. I have no doubt this team will learn from this experience and improve for our next meet against Chiscago Lakes.”

Goldsmith said many girls competed high school routines for the first time and did a great job under pressure.

Ava Eastman won the JV all-around (32.05). Lola Visci finished third in the varsity all-around (33.825) and Grace Kluk was fifth (32.825). Sam Merten finished first in the combined all-around (32.55) and Kennadie Ell finished second (32.25).

Allie Goracke finished third on varsity vault.
