Hornet defense dominates

The Big Lake girls basketball team used outstanding defensive performance to take down Spectrum and Duluth Denfeld this week.

Last Thursday the team defeated Spectrum 49-26 in a road non-conference matchup.

On Saturday the team took down the Hunters behind a stellar first half, outscoring their opponent 47-11. The second half was more of the same defensively as the Hornets cruised to a 64-23 victory. Rylie Sternquist scored 21 points to lead the team. Greta Layton and Alexis Moen added 12 and 10.

In their last game of the week the Hornets travelled north for a Mississippi 8 Conference matchup against the Becker Bulldogs. Big Lake was unable to contain Becker as they were defeated 75-42. Sternquist was the only Hornet to reach double figures, finishing with 10 points. Moen scored nine and Mya Knapp had seven.

The team will finish the regular season this Thursday and Friday with two more home games against Chisago Lakes and Sauk Rapids-Rice.
