Hornet Dance Team’s season ends

The Big Lake Dance team finished their season last Saturday at ROCORI High School where the Section 4AA competition took place. The Hornets took sixth in Kick and seventh in Jazz out of 15 teams in each and was just four points per judge away from a state tournament berth.

The team’s sixth place finish in Kick was their best since they advanced to state in 2003. This year’s finish was a seven-spot improvement over last year.

With 18 dancers in formation for Kick, the Hornets fielded their largest team ever in a section competition.

For the season the team ranked 18th in the state out of 53 teams for Jazz and 20th out of 54 for Kick.

“We are so proud of these accomplishments and the season that we had,” said head coach Kayla Kleinsteuber, “We are so grateful to have had such strong leadership from our four senior captins: Emma Forpahl, April Gerth, Grace John, and Rowan Payne. They helped make this success possible.”
