The Big Lake Hornet boys golf team traveled to Monticello C.C. April 26 for a tough match against good teams and Mother Nature. As typical for April, the weather featured windy conditions, cold and rainy skies.
Big Lake tied the team record at 320 and the 74 shot by Isaac Flicker and the 78 by Aidan Johnson was a bonus to see with conditions the way they were. In six meets, the Hornets are averaging 330, which is on pace for a school record.
Head Coach Bill Miller tells his team to “keep it up and see what we can accomplish down the road.”
“Entering the season I did not know what to expect,” Miller said. “With having one year off and not knowing still how the conference was going to run the events, it has come down to 72 total golfers on the course during the meets.”
Miller says this year he will have different five and six men players all year because of the number of boys in the program.
“It is nice to make adjustments every meet,” he says. “As a coach, I am thankful to have four that score well from two years ago.”
Miller was referencing senior captain Isaac Flicker, Tyler Anderson, Ryker Stukenholtz and Aidan Johnson.
“I have options to fill the team with Noah Hart, Noah Peterson, Lucus Ruppelius, Jacob McDonald and Henry Knier in the five and six spots,” he said.
Next up, the boys traveled to the Refuge in St. Francis Wednesday (April 28), then play at Kimball Golf Club May 3.
