Hornet baseball team gets two shutout wins

The Big Lake Baseball team won two of three games over the past week, both by shutout.

Last Friday, Jackson Laroche pitched a two-hitter in a 3-0 win over Cambridge-Isanti.

The Hornets didn’t have a whole lot of offense in the game, but it was enough to support Laroche’s pitching gem.

Last Wednesday the Hornets won by an identical score, beating St. Francis, 3-0.

Owen Wilczek pitched a complete game. He struck out six and didn’t walk a batter.

Last Tuesday the Hornets had just one hit in an 11-1 loss at Princeton.

The Tigers reached starter Laroche for a run in the first inning, three in the second, one in the fourth and two more in the fourth before Jeffery Wanhala came in to pitch in relief. The Tigers added four more before Cusick came in to get the third out.

Big Lake’s only run came in the top of the fifth. Wilzek singled and was driven in by Jaxyn Tschritter.

Laroche took the loss. He allowed seven runs (four earned) on three hits. He walked six and struck out three. Wanhala walked three and allowed four runs (two earned). Cusick struck out two and walked a batter in one inning of work.

The Hornets are 7-8 on the season and 5-6 in the Mississippi 8 Conference. They played Chisago Lakes and Milaca this past week, results next week.
