Hockey team goes 1-1 to start season

The Becker/Big Lake hockey team went 1-1 this past week.

Eagles 2, Blue Jackets 1

Becker/Big Lake had an unassisted goal by junior forward Jack Beckstrom and a power play goal by senior defenseman Luke Ruppelius (assisted by senior forward Tyler Schmitt).  

Senior goalie Mitch Reasoner stopped 53 of 54 Cambridge-Isanti shots for a .981 save percentage on the night.  This was BBL’s first conference win since moving to the Mississippi 8 Conference in 2019.

Wildcats 3, Eagles 2

In BBL’s home-opener, the Eagles out-shot Chisago Lakes 35-24 in a 3-2 loss. The effort and heart these boys played was unparalleled. BBL got a power play goal by senior defenseman Ethan Tobako assisted by senior forward Jacob Bahe and senior defenseman Luke Ruppelius. 

The second goal was scored by senior forward Tyler Schmitt assisted by senior forward Jacob Bahe and senior forward Trent Rupar. Reasoner, now 1-1 on the season, stopped 74 of 78 Chisago Lakes shots to give him a .949 save percentage and 2.00 GAA after two games.

This was also Senior Night for Becker/Big Lake.  Seniors on the team are Alec Anderson, Jacob Bahe, Austin Barzee, Jacob Boe, Matthew Huffman, Brock Ramola, Mitch Reasoner, Trent Rupar (C), Luke Ruppelius, Tyler Schmitt (C), Bennett Tatge, Ethan Tobako (C) and Team Manager Lily Hanson.
