This week most of the hockey practices and games were cancelled for the B-BL Eagles due to the weather warnings, but last week the boys played fiercely against other teams and were able to make some nice plays despite their overall losses--with the exception of their victory over Legacy Christian which resulted in a score of 12 to 3. Below is a summary of their games.
NL 4, B-BL 2
Thursday, the Eagles went up against Northern Lakes. Northern scored screen shot just past defender and goalie Alec Anderson at the end of the first period. Second period: Northern scored through goalie’s arm hole after Eagles defenseman gets out of position. They score a few more times resulting in the Eagles being down 5 to 0 for the period.
Period 3: There is a goalie change between Anderson and Mitch Reasoner. Then, Luke Mehelich scores powerplay goal off rebound from Tyler Schmitt and Ethan Orgon; this was the only goal by B-BL. Next, Tyler Ruppelius received a second penalty which led to Northern Lakes powerplay goal, and Jaden Keo slash leads to another powerplay goal by the opposition.
“Overall, it was a tough night in the net for Alec Anderson. It happens. Mitch Reasoner came in and played well, giving up 2 powerplay goals. He also played well in JV game making 30 saves. He did this on short notice with one practice after being ill also. Caden Weber was out with injury. Nice job by Mitch,” stated Coach Jason Hartfiel.
Mora 6, B-BL 1
“They had a good crowd for their senior night. Big conference game for us. We won first meeting 4-1. The team started out alright with Mora out shooting us 8 to 4,” said Coach Jason Hartfiel.
Eagles take penalty with just under three minutes to play in first period. Bahe got one (interference) and another with 1:22 left by Tyler Ruppelius( highstick) leading to Mora powerplay goal. The second period started with a 5 minute boarding penalty (Rhodes) which led to a second powerplay goal for Mora. After more penalties, Mora scores even strength by # 7 Gavin Orr, one of the leading scorers in the state. Mora players continue to score. Then, after a Mora penalty, the Eagles score on powerplay by Luke Ruppelius from Kollar. Eagles lost 6 to 1, which removes any chance of winning the conference. The coach attributes these losses to all the time spent in the penalty boxes and hopes to strengthen up the discipline.
Little Falls 7, B-BL 1
In the first period, Eagles skated with the fast team of LF Flyers. It was a very good period until the end when Rupar got a hooking penalty with about two minutes left on the clock. Eagles took another penalty right before the second period. In the second period, Eagles start on penalty kill and give up another LF PP goal. Then LF scored the next five goals one with 11 seconds left to close second period. Shots: Eagles 3 and LF 17.
During the third period, the pace slowed a bit with Eagles playing even. Jacob Bahe got rid of goose egg with nice screen shot through defender’s legs, assist to Tyler Schmitt. There were two injuries in the third period. Kollar checked into scorebox (and did not return) and Tyler Ruppelius injured on hipcheck (did not return) with about five minutes to play. Goalie Alec Anderson made 31 saves.
