Former Becker/Big Lake youth hockey goalie, Lindsey Hartfiel of Big Lake was named NCHA (Northern Collegiate Hockey Association) women’s defensive player of the week for her superb 65 save performance in two weekend games for St. Scholastica. Hartfiel (freshman) led the Saints in a sweep of a St. Norbert squad that was ranked No. 6 in the D3 hockey poll and No. 9 in the USCHO poll coming into the series. Hartfiel stopped 36 of 38 in the 3-2 win Friday and followed that up with 29 saves on 30 shots in the 4-1 win Saturday. She allowed just three goals on the weekend, two of which came on the power play, in improving to 4-0 in net on the season.The pair of wins not only sent St. Scholastica to the top of the league standings with a perfect 4-0 mark and eight points, but also saw them jump into the national polls. CSS went from receiving no votes last week to seventh in the D3 hockey poll and ninth in the USCHO poll. Hartfiel, who attended Buffalo High School because they have a girls hockey team, was an all-state selection while playing for the Bison and was runner-up for senior goalie of the year. She was named the team’s MVP, was all-conference and academic all-state She also participated in lacrosse, soccer and track and Field.Hartfiel is studying Biology/Pre-med at St. Scholastica
