Hanle no-hits Cambridge-Isanti as Dogs roll

The Becker Bulldog baseball team picked up a nice Mississippi 8 Conference win Tuesday evening behind a no hitter from lefty Gerad Hanle.  Becker also had the bats going in a 14-0 shutout victory, shortened to five innings via the 10 run rule.

“Hats off to Gerad, he pitched a heck of a game and we played great behind him,” said Head Coach Brett Knudsen.  “The bats are starting to come alive and hopefully we can keep this momentum going.”

Hanle was phenomenal all game, as the sophomore went five innings, striking out eight and walking just two batters.

Hunter Pietrowski made an unbelievable diving play at third base in the bottom of the third inning, going into the dirt on the backhand and throwing out the leadoff Bluejacket batter to preserve the no-hitter.

Hanle used that to propel his dominance.

“I just went out there and wanted to execute after my last outing,” Hanle said immediately after the game.   “I wanted to go throw strikes, pound the zone and work my off-speed really well.”

Nine different Bulldog batters had hits in the game, with Brandon Hyrkas, Pietrowski, Isaac Guck and Hanle each collecting two hits apiece.  Hyrkas, Riley Girard and Austin Rimmer each had two RBIs for Becker.

Vs. Thunder

Last Thursday, Becker took another conference win with a 10-2 victory over Zimmerman on a cold night.

“This was a good bounce back win after a couple of tough losses,” Knudsen said.

Becker had seven hits in the game, with Pietrowski picking up two RBI, while Hanle had two hits.

Ethyn Cantin, Alex Schermer and Isaac Guck combined for the work on the mound and struck out 13 Thunder batters.

Vs. Tigers

Last Wednesday, Becker fell to Delano 4-1.

Pietrowski was great on the mound, as he went 5.2 innings and threw strikes consistently while giving up just two earned runs.

Delano outhit Becker 6-5 in the game, but Becker committed three errors which proved to be costly.

Thursday night, Becker hosted Big Lake under the lights and on Friday the Dogs were in Milaca.
