Gymnasts Hit The Mat After Winter Break

The Becker girls gymnastics team jumped back into the regular season schedule after taking significant time off from competition due to winter break.

Tropical Twist Invite

The Bulldogs traveled down the road to Big Lake to compete in the annual Tropical Twist Invitational Saturday.

“We love going to this meet as it is a great opportunity to show off all of our skills that we have been working so hard on over winter break,” said Head Coach Kayla Kalinowski.  “Also, it is a chance for us to see three other teams from our section (Sartell, Big Lake and Chisago Lakes) and see where our scores compare as we approach the section meet.  “

Kalinowski and her coaches knew going in that Sartell and Big Lake have amazing teams this year.

“It was fun to see how our scores matched up to theirs and give the girls some motivation in the coming weeks.”

Floor Exercise

Becker started the meet on floor and hit a decent floor set.  The girls added a few upgrades from over break and the coaches were happy to see the girls going hard after the new skills.

“We are so close to adding even more skills and are hoping to get those into more routines soon.

Vault Exercise

Next, Becker went to vault.  Theresa Johnson hit the best vault and Coach Kalinowski said it was nice to see her hard work in the practice gym pay off.  Sarah Woelfel had her best landing all season with her tsuk.  Riley Norberg also hit a very nice tsuk  to tie for seventh place.

Bars Exercise

Bars has still been a work in progress for Kalinowski’s team this season.

Woelfel continued to lead the way on bars and has been incredibly consistent with her performance.  Emi Quill hit her bar routine and is working hard to add a few new upgrades to break into those higher scores.

Beam Exercise

Beam was an up and down event for the Bulldogs.  Quill and Lauren Woelfel hit their best routines of the season with Woelfel placing sixth on the event with a 9.05.

“Overall, we were pleased with our performance at the Tropical Twist,” said Kalinowski. “We are excited to continue to work hard in the gym and add more difficulty to some of our routines as we close in on our big meets of the season.”

Team Scores: 1). Sartell - 146.25; 2). Big Lake - 144.65; 3). Rogers - 135.2; 4). Chisago Lake - 135.14; 5). Becker - 134.05; 6). Big Lake JV - 126.65; 7). Annandale - 125.95; 8). Glencoe-SL - 120.5.

Beam Exercise

Beam was a little bit of a frustrating event for the Bulldogs, said Kalinowski.
