The Big Lake Hornet gymnastics team competed against St. Francis March 4 and both the varsity and JV squads came home with victories.
Varsity finished the conference season 6-1 and second place in the Mississippi 8 Conference. JV finished the season 7-0 and in first place in the M8C. Both teams also had their season high team scores versus St Francis with varsity scoring a 144.875 and JV scored a 135.05.
“We are confident with where our girls are at and where they are trending heading into sections,” said Co-Head Coach Lanny Goldsmith. “We’ve had to rest some girls due to injuries and other circumstances this season but that has given other girls opportunities to gain experience.”
Goldsmith said the girls will take the next week or so to work on cleaning up their skills and routines for their section meet, which is at Big Lake High School, Sat. March 20.
“Our coaches couldn’t be prouder of this team for their dedication, determination and grit that it’s taken to overcome many obstacles this season which has been unlike any other,” said Goldsmith.
Varsity is ranked #2 in the latest Class A state rankings.
