Gymnasts Finish 5th At Sections

“We were super excited to be able to host the Section 7A Championship meet this year,” said Becker Head Gymnastics Coach Kayla Kalinowski.

“The girls were excited to be on the their own equipment and to be comfortable with the set up.  We were thankful for all of the help from our parents and families to help make this meet a success.”

Floor Exercise

Becker started on floor and had one of their best floor sets of the season.

“The girls were pumped up and ready to show off for their home fans,” said Kalinowski.

Amelia Kirchner started the Bulldogs off with a great hit routine for an 8.275.  Riley Norberg and Katie Wilke continued to hit routines for identical 8.5’s.  Sarah Woelfel had one of her best routines of the season for an 8.85 and Emi Quill closed the rotation out with her best routine of the season for an 8.85.

Vault Exercise

The girls kept the energy going as they moved to vault.  They had to change their line up a little right before the meet and it gave a few girls who haven’t been consistent varsity vaulters a chance to show their vaults off.

Quill hit a nice vault for an 8.5. Kirchner and Theresa Johnson hit nice handspring-fulls for an 8.5 and 8.3 respectively.  Sarah Woelfel landed her tuck tsuk for an 8.6 and Riley Norberg finished up with a nice pike tsuk for a 9.075 and  ninth place.

Bars Exercise

Bars has been the Bulldogs’ weakest event all season and unfortunately it continued to be that way at sections.

Johnson was called up last minute to start the Bulldogs off and hit a great routine.

“We appreciated her hard work all season to improve this event and were excited for her to be able to have the chance to show it off at sections,” said Kalinowski.

Katie Wilke hit one of her best sets of the year for a 7.975 and Norberg also hit a great routine for an 8.0.  Quill closed-up the rotation with a nice clean routine for an 8.0.

Beam Exercise

Beam was a highlight for Becker as the girls seemed to handle the nerves pretty well.

“We were pleasantly surprised that most of the girls were cool, calm and collected,” said Becker’s head coach.

Kirchner had a great stuck routine for an 8.35.  Quill and Wilke followed  with stuck routines of their own and a great way to end their careers as Becker gymnasts with an 8.35 and 8.3.

All-Around

Quill finished 10th in the all-around and Norberg finished eighth to close out the meet.

The top three all-around gymnasts and next three on each event advanced to the state gymnastics meet this weekend and while Becker did not have anyone advance this year, Kalinowski and her coaching staff and athletes are already looking forward to working hard this summer and improving on their fifth place finish for next season.
