Gymnasts Compete On Back To Back Nights

The Becker girls gymnastics team particiapted in a JV meet Monday, then a JV/varsity meet Tuesday.

JV Showcase

The JV girls traveled to St. Cloud Cathedral to compete against the Crusaders Monday night.

“We were very excited to be able to attend this meet again this year,” said Head Coach Kayla Kalinowski.  “It is a fantastic opportunity for some of our JV kids, who do not compete at all events, to get a chance to show off all their routines and what they have been working on all season.”

Norah Fitzpatrick, Hailey Deters, Hailey Duncombe and Mackensie Cota were able to compete all-around for the first time this season and Kalinowski was very impressed with their efforts.

Other highlights from this meet were Amelia Kirchner’s much improved vault, Theresa Johnson’s strong bar effort, Sarah Woelfel and Mackensie Cota’s beautiful beam sets, and Tessa Maruska and Fallon Peterson’s much improved floor routines.

JV team score: 124.6.

JV/Varsity Dual at HLWWHT

Tuesday, the Becker girls went into this meet wondering how their JV athletes would handle competing two days in a row. They came away from the experience very impressed.

“We had many JV kids who had season and personal best scores on many events,” said Coach Kalinowski.

One of the biggest highlights of the meet was Justine Vilmo’s stuck beam routine for an 8.35 score.

“Justine works so hard in the gym and it was so rewarding to see her hard work pay off,” said Becker’s head coach.

The JV team put together a season-high team score of 127.0.

Bars Exercise

The Bulldog varsity girls started on bars and put up some good routines — but the highlight was Katie Wilke putting together her best routine of the season for second place, 8.4.

“Bars went well, but we are looking to add a few more skills in to our routines before the post-season to be able to be competitive in our section on the event,” Kalinowski said.

Results: Lauren Woelfel 7.35; Riley Norberg 7.85; Emi Quill 8.25; Katie Wilke 8.4 and Sarah Woelfel 8.45.

Vault Exercise

Becker moved to vault next and Riley Norberg hit one of her best vaults of the season to win the event with a 9.35.

“Overall, vault went very well and we are just looking to improve our landings before the next meet,” Kalinowski said.

Results: Katie Wilke 8.6; Lauren Woelfel 8.75; Theresa Johnson 8.75; Sarah Woelfel 8.85 and Riley Norberg 9.35.

Beam Exercise

Beam was next and Faith Madsen started the Bulldogs off with a nice, stuck beam routine.  Riley Norberg continued her amazing day with her best beam routine of the season for a 9.0.

“Riley works so hard in practice on this event and it was nice to see her hard work pay off,” Said Coach Kalinowski.

Results: Katie Wilke 7.6; Emi Quill 7.65; Faith Madsen 7.8; Lauren Woelfel 7.9 and Riley Norberg 9.0.

Floor Exercise

Floor was a little bit of an off night for Bulldogs.

“The girls struggled with their landings on some of their passes and their scores reflected that,” she said.

Norberg and Sarah Woelfel were the only gymnasts to make all three passes and finished first and second on the event with  8.85 and 8.75 scores.

Results: Emi Quill 8.2; Katie Wilke 8.2; Amelia Kirchner 8.3; Sarah Woelfel 8.75 and Riley Norberg 8.85.
