Gymnastics Meet Cut Short Due To Safety Concerns

Tuesday’s gymnastics meet in Paynesville got off to a very interesting start. When the judges arrived, they deemed the floor exercise unsafe as there was not enough padding around the floor.

“We met with the judges and other coaches and came to the conclusion to still compete the other three events,” said Becker Head Coach Kayla Kalinowski.  “This was on top of the already crazy week of having limited practices due to snow and cold.  However, the ladies handled the craziness as well as they could and we were excited to just be back in the gym!”

Becker started on the bars and with the limited practice, they decided to just do clean, simple routines.  The ladies swept the bars competition taking the top five spots with Emi Quill hitting a season high 8.5 for first place!

The Bulldogs moved on to vault next and Kalinowski saw her team struggle in warmups with the vault settings in this gym so they again chose to “water down” their vaults to be safe and healthy for our upcoming conference and sections meets.  Riley Norberg proved that nothing could stop her and she hit a beautiful pike tsuk to win vault with a 9.0.  Quill finished in third and Theresa Johnson in fifth.

Becker concluded their evening on beam and once again Kalinowski’s girls swept the competition, taking the top five spots.  Lauren Woelfel hit a nice routine to win the event and take the top spot with an 8.55.  Norberg was close behind in second with an 8.3.

With no floor competition taking place, there was no all around results or team results for this meet.
