The Becker gymnastics team came within .25 points of knocking off Big Lake in last weekend’s Section 7A finals in Princeton, finishing in second place (just .075 points ahead of Sartell) and sending two gymnasts (Hannah Schmidt and Haley hubbard) to state to compete in the individual championships.
Schmidt placed second in vault and tied for fourth in the all-around and will be making her first trip to state this Saturday. Hubbard will accompany Schmidt as Haley placed third on floor exercise.

Vault Exercise
Schmidt nailed both of her difficult vaults and finished with a combined score of 9.325, second to Anna Neeser of Sartell, who had a 9.35. Hubbard finished seventh with a 9.05, Sabrina Tiemens in 10th with a 8.95, Kassidi Andres in 21st place with an 8.65 and Megan Murphy in 30th with an 8.45.
Bars Exercise
Haley Olsen of Becker was the team’s top bars performer where she finished sixth with a score of 8.4. Murphy took eighth place with an 8.325, followed by Schmidt in 12th with an 8.125, Hubbard in 22nd place with a 7.85 and Lexi Reichle in 23rd place with a 7.85.
Sartell’s Claire Boschee took first place with a 9.275 score.
Beam Exercise
On beam, Schmidt scored an 8.975 to garner eight place while Murphy landed an 8.9 for 10th, Montanna Edling an 8.85 for 11th, Tiemens an 8.8 for 13th and Reichle an 8.65 for 15th place.
Boschee of Sartell took home the top prize with a 9.45 score.
Floor Exercise
Former Becker gymnast Alyssa Fladebo of Annandale captured first place on floor with a 9.575 score with Hubbard taking third with a 9.425. Edling had a strong routine, scoring a 9.175 for seventh place while Schmidt took 11th with a 9.075, Murphy 12th with a 9.05 and Reichle 19th place with an 8.7.
All-Around
In the all-around, Schmidt tied with Sartell’s Madison Flaherty for fourth with a combined score of 35.500 to achieve a place at state. Murphy took seventh place with a score of 34.7250.
Boschee of Sartell was the top gymnast, scoring an impressive 37.2250. Big Lake’s Laura Jore finished second with a 36.6750 score.
Schmidt and Hubbard will compete at the University of Minnesota Pavillion Saturday and complete results will appear in next week’s Citizen.
