GRFIA golf scramble is delightful as usual

Monday, organizers of the Great River Faith In Action (GRFIA) institution hosted their annual golf scramble at Pebble Creek Golf Club in Becker. Dozens of area citizens, business owners and GRFIA supporters descended upon the golf course on a perfect day weather-wise to smack a little white ball around the woods and ponds.

Prizes were awarded to lowest-scoring teams in this scramble format and plenty of fun activities and games were also available throughout the 18-holes that gave everyone a shot at bringing home a prize.

Maureen Baty, GRFIA’s executive director “manned” the main tent outside the clubhouse where golfers signed up their teams, bought mulligans and raffle tickets and loaded their clubs on their carts.

“We are SO GRATEFUL for everyone who sponsored, golfed and/or donated to Faith in Action,”  said Baty.  “It’s because of our amazing community support that we are able to continue to serve elderly, disabled and struggling families in our area.  Thank You!!”

Great River Faith in Action is a volunteer-based, nonprofit located in Becker, that serves the elderly and struggling families/individuals in Sherburne County and parts of Wright County. They assist the community by bringing together those that need help and those that are looking to help others.

Monday’s golf scramble featured several on course contests including a chipping contest, a putting contest and several opportunities to prove one’s worth on  long-driving holes or longest putt contests.

The foursome of Dan Olson, Travis Mills, Jerry Schommer and Johnny Olson took home first place honors with the lowest score of 12 under (tie breaker winners). Second place went to KC Foster, Nathan Cox, Keaton Shinn and Caleb Foster, who also shot -12.

Third place went to Russ Niskanen, Scott Meagher, Greg Mattson and Gary Mattson, who also tallied a 12 under score.

A prize was also awarded to the team that scored the highest and that was the foursome of Vonnie Novak, Mary Jo Stanger, Barb Potter and Karin Pauly who finished at 13 over.

The longest drive for the women was on hole # 5 and Bev Knutson won that honor. Hole #6 featured the closest to the pin contest and Franco C. captured that top prize. Mike James received a prize for men’s longest putt on  hole #9.

Russ Niskanen captured the prize for longest drive for the men on hole #16 and Mary Jo Stanger took home a prize for longest putt for the women on hole #18.

At the chipping contest, Jerry Schrupp was declared the winner and he took home a brand new putter.

The scramble was sponsored by many great organizations and many had their logos and company names on signs at each hole on the course. The Gold sponsors were:  Pellco, Darter Plastics, Sherburne State Bank, Beaudry Oil, Northwest Machine, Victory Insurance, Becker Furniture World, Victory Ministries, First Bank Elk River, M & M Machine, Absolute Sourcing and PEM.

Silver sponsores were: Bergan KDV and Bronze sponsors were: Country Lumber, River of Life Church Elk River, Olsen Fish Company, Firebuggz, Hubbard Electric, Community Development Bank, Prime Capital Investments and Gries Lenhardt Allen LLC.
