Golf Season Ends On Day 2 Of Sections

By Bill Morgan, Staff Writer

The Becker boys’ golf season officially came to an end Monday at the Section 8AAA golf tournament at Rich Springs.

Alex and Zach Stanz finished in a tie for 12th (157) and Austin Seavert finished in a tie for 30th (166).

“They each had some stretches in which they all struggled,” said Head Coach Dan Olson.

Alex shot an 83 on day following a 74 on day one. Zach shot 78, 79  and Seavert shot 82, 84.

Lucas Dertinger, Gavin Murphy and Cole Benson did not qualify to play on day two.

“While it is easy to find a lot of positives that happened this season, the season ended earlier than it should have,” said Olson.  “I am extremely proud of all of the boys that played this season.”

Olson is saddened at the thought of losing such great talent in his three seniors — Dertinger, Benson and Alex Stanz.

“Alex had a solid high school golf career with two appearances at state,” he said. “Lucas and Cole were great additions to the varsity team.”

Olson, however, is excited and anxious to see how some of his younger stars play come next year.

“Austin (Seavert), Gavin (Murphy) and Zach (Stanz) will be the returning core of the team and there is a good group of kids (Matthew, Ethan, Tucker and Jimmy) that will fill the void from my departing seniors.”

Alexandria won the team title with a 612 followed by Brainerd (614), Moorhead (632), Sartell-St. Stephen (638), Buffalo (644) and St. Cloud (658).

Becker finished eighth with a 327 (first day’s total).

Braeden Sladek of Alexandria took medalist honors Monday, shooting an impressive 149. Also making state are Gavin Metz (Brainerd, 150), Ben Dirck (Alexandria, 153), Alex Schwab (Moorhead, 154), Jack Evans (Brainerd, 154), Erik Stoxen (Brainerd, 154), Logan Hamek (Sartell-St. Stephen, 155), Noah Boraas (Alexandria, 157), Grant Rebrovich (Alexandria, 158), Hunter Rebrovich (Alexandria, 159) and Joe Bigger (Alexandria, 163).
