Girls track team dominating early

The Becker Bulldog girls track team was fast out of the gate in their opening meets, taking first place in a pair of contests.

The Bulldogs opened the season with an indoor meet in Becker and came out on top with 110 points, defeating Chisago Lakes, Zimmerman, Big Lake and Princeton.

Head Coach Trish Reimer-Kealy was impressed with her team’s depth, as her girls scored points across many events in many place finishes.

“It is so important to get those places on through all possibilities,” Reimer-Kealy said.

Becker amassed eight first place finishes, including senior Kailey Thompson in the 55 hurdles (9.53), Andie Changamire in the 400 (64.31), Adele Changamire in the 800 (2:30.4), Salayna Allen in the 200 (28.04),  Ella Tschida in the shot put (34’.6”), Sophia Otto in the Pole Vault (9’6”).  

In addition, the relays were good with the 4x200 team (Thompson, Abby Atwood, Allen, and Josie Reckelberg) taking first in a time of 1:53.92.  The 4x400 team was also tough with Kaylyn Rickard, Katelyn Brower, Adele Changamire, and Andie Changamire scoring tops with a time of 4:24.73.

Second place finishes came from the 4x800 team (Savannah Cunningham, Sydnee Bull, Laney Hodel, and Elizabeth Jones in 11:28.66) as well as Rickard in the 400 (68.43), Brower in the 800 (2:38.99), Reckelberg in the 200 (28.52),  and Allen in the Long Jump (15’4”).

“We had a lot of good efforts by the team as we figure out our line ups for the season,” Reimer-Kealy said.  “It was an encouraging start to our season!”

Home Again

Becker hosted another indoor meet on April 1 and once again, the Bulldogs came out on top, scoring 74 points to defeat Cambridge-Isanti, Zimmerman and North Branch.

“At this time in our early season we are trying our athletes in several different events and testing the waters to find our best fit for each meet,” Reimer-Kealy said.

Kailey Thompson once again took first place in the 55 hurdles with a personal record time of 9.26, while Raelee Lyon took second (9.98), Kali Schendzielos was third (10.05) and Harper Miller 5th (10.32).

Josie Reckelberg took first in the 55 dash (7.71), while Allen was fourth (7.81) and Kailey Thompson fifth (7.91).

In the 200 meters, Allen was third (28.23) and Reckelberg fourth (28.40).

Katelyn Brower was first in the 400 (66.75) and Alyssa Kinney was third (67.38) in that event, while In the 800, Adele Changamire placed first (2:31.67) and Laney Hodel was fourth (2:55.23).

Sydnee Bull placed fourth in the 1600 (6:03.61), with Savannah Cunningham finishing fifth (6:04.19).

The 4x200 relay team of Maggie Graning, Harper Miller, Andie Changamire, and Josie Reckelberg placed third (1:55.10), and the 4x400 relay team of Brower, Andie Changamire, Thompson and Adele Changamire placed first (4:22.29).

In field events, Ella Tschida was first in shot (32’5 3/4) and in the long jump, Reckelberg was 3rd (16’1”).  In the high jump, Bella Kuschel was third (4’8”) and Graning took fifth.

“These were good efforts by our team in this early season and we are looking forward to getting outside for our meets next week,” Reimer-Kealy concluded.
