Girls Take Sixth, Boys Fourth In St. Francis

The Becker Bulldog boys and girls track teams competed at the Saints  Invite at St. Frances Thursday.
 
It was Becker’s first outdoor meet after they had to cancel the meet scheduled for Monday because of inclement weather.
 
Girls Track
“There was some very good competition at this meet and we had some good performances from our athletes,” said Head Coach Trish Reimer-Kealy.
 
Becker’s only individual first place finisher came from Victoria Kolbinger in the 3200 meters.  She ran a personal best time of 11:55.48, taking 15 seconds off her previous best time that she achieved at a freshman/sophomore meet held at Big Lake.   
 
Becker’s Alli Hendrickson also ran well in the 3200, taking third with a fine time of 12:06.07.  
 
Madi Kerzman  placed in both the shot put and discus.  She was second in the shot with 33'3 and third in discus with 98'7.  
 
“She brings us valuable points in the throwing events,” said the head coach.
 
Julia Bengtson ran well to bring home second place in the 1600 meters with a time of 5:27.18.  Also running well for Becker in the 1600 was Adeline Kent (6:02.02 - ninth) and Courtney Nuest (6:06.22 - 12th).
 
In the 800 meters, Lexi Dehmer came in third in the mix of some very tough competition. She ran a time of 2:27.95. Alayna Lindquist also scored in the 800, placing eighth (2:39.20). Jackie Yoerg just missed placing, coming in 10th with a time of 2:45.61.
 
Reimer-Kealy was very satisfied with her sprinters who placed second in the 200.  Cassidy Pleoger came in fifth (28.98) and Keeley Holm sixth (29.00). Cassidy also was sixth in the 100 (14.26)
 
Aubree Lahr placed in three events. She took sixth in the triple jump (31'3 1/2"), seventh in the pole vault (8'6") and eighth in the 100 meter hurdles (18.51).
 
Haley Hubbard also placed in the triple jump (31' 3 1/2") and was on the fourth place 4x100 relay team along with Jayna Adu-Gyanfi, Nikki O'Brien and Cassidy Pleoger (54.15).
 
Miranda O'Brien placed fifth in the long jump (14'5").
 
“Other than the 4x100 relay, we had great success in the 4x800 relay with that group coming in first with a time of 10:12.40,” said Reimer-Kealy.  
 
The team members were Alayna Lindquist, Alli Hendrickson, Julia Bengtson and Lexi Dehmer. 
 
The 4x200 meter relay ran into some trouble with a hand off and were disqualified.  
 
The 4x400 team ran its best time of the season (4:28.31) for fifth place with runners Payton Anderson, Madison Pleoger, Nikki O'Brien and Lexi Dehmer.    
 
Team scores: 1). Rocori 155; 2). St Francis 106; 3). Mahtomedi 102.5; 4). Chisago Lakes 87.5; 5). North Branch 86.5; 6). Becker 84; 7). Hibbing 50.5; 8). St. Croix Prep 19; 9). Legacy 6; 10). Forest Lake 5.
 
“It was a good start to our outdoor season and are looking for good things for this group,” said Trish.
 
Boys Track
The Becker boys had a strong showing, finishing fourth with 111.5 points.  Mahtomedi finished in first with 138, Chicago Lakes was second with 120 and Rocori was third with 113.
 
Becker was in contention all day long with the meet coming down to the final few events.  
 
"We weren't able to get any points out of the long jump or pole vault and that was where we ended up falling behind and out of contention for winning the meet,” said Head Coach Paul Schmidt. 
 
First place finishes went to the 4x800 team of John Novak, Mason Mackarell, Justin Kringle and Sam Ricker.  They ran a personal best time for the year of 8:48.   Ricker then followed that up with a first place finish in the mile, running a personal best of 4:48.29.
 
Becker’s shot put and disc throwers had a great day as all three of their  throwers hit personal bests in the disc.  Dawson Thom took third with a throw of 128'-1" and both Ryan Nohner and Nick Radunz PR-ed with tosses of 106'-3" and 101'-1".
 
In the shot put, it was Thom again getting a personal best with a throw of 46'-7", which was good for second place. Brady Roesler picked up an eighth place finish with a throw of 39'.
 
Kevin Andres had a strong day for the Bulldogs as he finished second in the 400M with a PR time of 51.84.  Andres was also part of the winning 4x400 team  with teammates Matt Davalos, Sidney Boros and Mason Mackarell.  They ran a top time for the year of 3:37.2.  
 
Andres, Boros, Jordan Gruenes and Austin Hemmelgarn ran a nice 4x200 relay that finished second with a time of 1:34.43 and Boros finished third in the 200M with Gruenes finishing seventh.
 
Mackerell was strong in the 800M, finishing in second place with a time of 2:13.89.
 
Davalos and David Myres finished in third and sixth in the 300M hurdles and Myres also took a third place in the 110M hurdles.
 
Becker took fifth, sixth and seventh place in triple jump with Ethan Holm, Brady Scheeley and William Schendel all scoring points for Becker.
