The Becker Girls Soccer High School Teams had lots to celebrate at their awards banquet. The Program has been undefeated in Conference games for the last three years, winning the Granite Ridge Conference Title for the 3rd straight year.
The varsity team finished with a 14-3-1 score. The program had the highest number of players this year and added another JV team (JV2). Both teams improved and played at a high level.
Coaches did a great job leading the girls. Kaila Lindsay is a Becker Soccer Alumni from one of the first ever varsity teams Becker has had and played under Coach Gretchen Changamire.
Danielle Gau is a former collegiate player who played for Coach Arnold Changamire's Monticello Club state championship soccer team.
"Having these knowledgeable coaching was so terrific and to have both of them being former players of fellow coaches was just so fun,” said Arnold.
The senior class (Claire Voigt, Amber Vogl, Lauren Sticha, Tory Nelson, and Joey Rothstein) had an amazing season with all five players either making the All-Conference Team or receiving Honorable Mention.
Lauren Sticha and Claire Voigt made the All-State 2nd Team which is a big honor made of the best players in the state. Lauren Sticha a sixth-year letter winner, finishes her Becker soccer run with the most points in the program: an impressive 214, 58 goals and 98 assists. Claire Voigt is a fifth-year letter winner and proudly finishes her career with 85 goals and 31 assists—the second most points in the Becker soccer program history.
"These seniors played such a big role in the success our program has had in the last 3-4 years and it’s been a pleasure to spend so much time with them on the soccer field as they improved and raised their level of play and our programs level of play. All of us coaches are really proud of them,” said Gretchen.
The team is looking forward to the challenge of the level of competition of the Mississippi 8 Conference. There are strong experienced players returning and have some dedicated JV players who are willing to continue to work hard in the off season to contribute to our team’s success next season.
Other All-Conference awards:
Honorable Mention went to Abbey Rothstein and the Scholar Athlete award was given to Amber Vogl; MVP to Lauren Sticha; Most Dedicated to Emma Domka; Most Improved to Kaylin Peterson; Rookie of the Year to Serena St. Denis. Alyanna Suchy received the Coach’s Award.
The night was filled with many team awards and a celebration of a successful season for all the teams.
