SENIOR FORWARD DAISY KENT (L) scored six goals in three games reported this week to lead the Bulldogs to two wins.

Girls Lacrosse Team Playing Opponents Tough

The Becker Bulldog girls lacrosse team went 2-2 in four games reported this week.

Becker 9, SSRR 7
Becker hosted Sartell/Sauk Rapids/Rice Thursday and won by two.

The game got off to a rough start for the Bulldogs as SSRR went up two goals almost immediately before Becker countered with one. The Storm put another score  and had Becker down 3 - 1 before the game was seven minutes old.

The Bulldogs went on a little run and put a quick three goal streak in before the Storm could answer with one to tie it up at four.

Becker topped off the half with a goal at 41 seconds left and the teams went into halftime with the home team leading, 5-4.

The second half saw Becker scoring a quick goal from Daisy Kent, as she fired a shot above the goalie’s shoulder to dent the twine.

The Storm stormed back and scored four minutes later, but Becker put together another little three-goal streak to go up 9-5.

With 7:17 left in the game, Becker received their fourth card and had to play the rest of the game a person short. The Storm  scored two goals, the second with 4:19 left in the game and Becker up by  just two. Fortunately for Hovde’s team, his girls won critical draws and controlled the ball, eventually running out the clock.

Scoring for Becker were Kinsley Hurt with two, Rachel Eisenreich two, Daisy Kent two, Macy Eigen two and Beutz one.

St. Cloud Tech 11, Becker 8
Tuesday, Becker played St. Cloud Tech for the second time in a week as part of their home-and-away schedule.

The first half had the Tech Tigers and the  Bulldogs trading goals with Tech taking the lead for good with 1:35 left in the half.

The second half commenced with Tech scoring three unanswered goals. Becker finally broke the streak with a goal of their own, but Tech came right back and scored their final score at 10:01.
Sensing the urgency of time slipping away, the Bulldogs took control of the ball and scored twice more but the deficit was too much and the clock’s time ticked away.

Scoring for Becker were Eisenreich (three goals), Hurt (two), Sydney Stommes (one), Kent (one) and Beutz (one).

Bison 11, Bulldogs 6
The Lady Bulldogs traveled to play the Buffalo Bison Monday and lost by five.

It was another cold and rainy night and it got more miserable for the Bulldogs when Buffalo scored the first two goals. Becker felt a little better when they came right back and scored two quick goals to tie the match.

Buffalo went on to finish the half with another four goals to go up 6-2.

The second half, Becker played Buffalo even for most of the time and could only muster four goals to Buffalo’s five and lost the contest despite getting three goals from Kent.

Also scoring for Becker were Eigen, Stommes and Anna Ritchie tallying one goal a piece.

Becker 10, St. Cloud Tech 9 (OT)
Becker hosted the St. Cloud Tech Tigers April 21 and the Bulldogs pulled off a miracle win.

The game started with Tech scoring five unanswered goals.

Becker’s first goal didn’t come until 6:50 minutes were left in the first half. Nine seconds later, Becker scored their second goal to end the first half down by four at 6-2.

In the second half,  Tech and Becker traded goals early to make the score 8-3 with 16:35 left in the game.

Remarkably, Becker gathered momentum and went on a five goal scoring streak to tie the match with 2:18 left on the clock.

Tech scored a minute later to go up 9-8.

With less than 10 seconds to go, Eigen was fouled on the right side of the field, giving the Bulldogs one last shot at tying the match.

On the whistle, Eigen made a cross-field pass to teammate.

Eisenriech, who fired the ball on net to score with one second remaining.

In sudden death overtime, both teams at times played short-handed due to foul troubles.  With 2:18 left on the first OT clock, Eigen scored on a penalty shot to capture the dramatic win.

“I saw Allie Zimmer and Rachel both close to the goal,” Eigen said. “I gave Allie a nod, hoping Tech would crash on her knowing Rachel was not covered. On the whistle, I made the pass and Rachel scored. I had no idea how little time we had.”

Was she nervous?

“I missed a couple of penalty shots earlier in the game so I was nervous,” she said. “I knew I had to make it to win the game. When the whistle blew I shot as hard as I could and it went in.”

Abby Becker, one of the Bulldogs’ hardest-working players on defense was asked how she felt after the game.

“This was one of my favorite lacrosse games I ever played in,” she said. “We started off rough, I think we were rushing things. But the second half we all really came together as a team and played our hearts out.”
