Girls Lacrosse Destroys Two Opponents

By Susana Kuehne, Contributing Writer

Becker 15, Rocori 6

Thursday, the girls’ lacrosse team traveled to Rocori on and won with an impressive score. Rocori is a second year team and they are still developing their program.

Yet, even so, Rocori surprised Becker by winning the first draw and running thru Becker's defense to score in the opening minute of the game. Becker's offense and defense tightened up and Becker went on a scoring spree.

The half-time score was 10 for Becker to 4 for Rocori. During second half, the scoring slowed down.

"I wanted to try some players in different positions to see how they would do,” said Coach Hovde.

Samantha Stellmach (12grade) goalie, had another great game with 20 saves.

Becker scoring was as follows: Allison Zimmer 1, Rachel Eisenreich 2, Sydney Stommes, Hannah Bengtson 3, Bria Amundson 2, Kirsten Fitzgerald 1, Kinsley Hurt 3 and Faith Madsen 2.

Becker 11, St. Cloud 4

After losing to STMA on Thursday, Becker played St. Cloud on Friday, May 11th. St Cloud had beaten STMA earlier in the season so the Becker girls knew they had to play well to be competitive, and it paid off with a win.

Kinsley Hurt said, "We have always been rivals with Tech so to be able to beat them on our home field was a very exciting moment”.

Becker controlled the ball well the first half and scored the first 5 goals before Tech got on the board. At 11:34 and 11:24, Becker got two yellow cards so they were playing down two players. Becker's defense was able to clear the ball to mid field, fed the ball to Bria Amundson who was able to score the shorthanded goal.

At half-time, the score was: Becker 6 St. Cloud Tech 2. The second half started with Becker scoring twice then Tech twice. Becker scored two goals seconds apart at the 10:27 (Allison Zimmer) and 9:47 (Bria Amundson) marks to seal the game. The final score was Becker 11 and St. Cloud Tech 4.

"I thought the girls might be a little flat after losing last night, but they came out and played a great game,” shared Coach Hovde, while Assistant Coach Bill Roland was impressed by goalie Sammi Stellmach’s 17 shots and the fact that she only allowed 4 to score. She had a career high 76% save ratio.

The scoring for the Becker girls was as follows: Reilly Cencer 3, Allison Zimmer 2, Bria Amundson 2, Anna Ritchie 1, and Kinsley Hurt 3.
