ASHLEY NEUWIRTH teamed up with Aly Fisher last Friday in Milaca and the duo finished in third place in the Milaca 6-6-6 tournament. Their score, along with their teammates, gave Becker the top score in the event and a first place prize. Neuwirth was also Becker’s top scorer at Blackberry Ridge where Becker finished third.

Girls Golfers Win One Tourney, Capture Third In Another

The Becker girls golf team traveled to Milaca last Friday to play in the 2014 Milaca 6-6-6 Invitational at Stones Throw Golf Course.

In a 6-6-6 tournament, the golfers play in pairs with six holes of normal, six holes of alternating shots and six holes of scrambling.
 
Several area teams came to the event from the Granite Ridge Conference and elsewhere in the area. 
 
Becker came out on top in the team portion as they shot a 173 with Ashley Neuwirth and Aly Fisher leading the way and gaining a third place medal with a score of 84.
 
Cathedral’s Ann Berdan and Lauren Herker were the winning pair with a 78.
 
Becker’s Rachel Vogl teamed up with Cheyenne Piccolo and they finished with an 89, good for fourth place. Macy Erson and Erica Brovold finished in seventh place with a 94.
 
Megan Gould and Ellieth Goth shot a 110 for the JV team that didn’t qualify to be included because they were only one team. St. Francis 1 took home the JV title with a 179.
 
Other schools at the event were: Annandale, Big Lake, Cambridge, Foley, Melrose and Pine City.

Blackberry Invite
 
Monday, the girls traveled to Blackberry Ridge Golf Course in Sartell to compete in a pre-section meet against nine area teams.
 
Becker finished third with a team score of 368 (top four golfers).
 
The Bulldogs were led by Neuwirth, who shot a 90 and finished in fifth place. She was followed by Fisher and Erson with 92s, Piccolo’s 94, Haley Thelen’s 104 and Vogl’s 105.
 
Staples-Motley’s Emily Israelson led all golfers with a 74.

The girls were scheduled to play Thursday in Milaca, but the meet was postponed to Friday (full report on the meet in next week’s Citizen). Next week, they travel to Stone Creek Golf Course Tuesday, then to St. Cloud Country Club Thursday.
