The Becker girls golf team is shooting consistent scores and improving as the season progresses.
Last week, they played in Elk River in a conference match hosted by Zimmerman. Becker placed second, seven strokes behind Monticello who shot a top score of 384.
Layla Mathews was the top Bulldog, firing an 88, good enough for fourth place. Emelia Strong finished eighth in the meet, followed by teammates Sydney Dunderi (11th), Gracie Conzemius (17th), Piper Dickinson (18th), and Addy Cohen (26th).
Monday, Becker hosted s rescheduled affair at Pebble Creek and used the home course advantage to place two golfers in the top 10 - Mathews and Conzemius.
“It was finally a beautiful day for golf,” Coach Anna Babler said. “We placed third as a team and we had two girls make it in the top 10!”
Monticello again placed on top with a 364, while Becker fired a 382.
Mathews was third overall, while Conzemius was eighth.
As has been the tradition, the Pebble Creek Women’s Club teamed up to help the Bulldogs hand out golfer gift bags to all participants.
“We appreciate their support year after year,” Babler said.
Tuesday night, Becker showed some excellent skill and fell just short in the conference match in North Branch by just one single stroke behind the Monticello Magic.
Mathews was stellar her entire round, as she tied for second place overall.
“Layla was neck and neck with the top three girls but ending up trailing behind by just two strokes,” Babler said.
Mathews fired a great round of 81, while Dickinson was ninth overall with a nice round of 95. Dunderi finished 14th and Strong 16th to round out the Bulldog scoring.
