Head Coach Anna Babler and the Becker girls golf team finally kicked off their season last week, with some good scores and a top performance from Layla Mathews.
Becker’s first meet, which was scheduled for last Monday at Pebble Creek, as postponed due to high winds and cold temperatures.
Last Thursday, Becker played at the Monticello Country Club and Layla Mathews came in with a first place finish, as she tied with two others for the top honors.
Monday, Becker had their first Mississippi 8 Conference meet, although the Dogs were missing two of their varsity players.
“We had three girls place in the top 10 and our team placed second overall,” Coach Anna Babler said. “I think our conference season is looking great, as coming in second with two girls absent is an excellent start.”
The host Magic took the win with 363 strokes, while the Bulldogs were next with a round of 388. Mathews shot an 84, which was good enough for second place, to pace the Bulldogs,
“Gracie Conzemius is new to our team this year, and she placed eighth overall, Babler added.
Sydney Dunderi placed ninth for the Bulldogs.
Babler expected the full squad to be back on Thursday, as her team headed to St. Francis to play at the Refuge course.
