Girls Bb Team Keeps Rolling

The Becker Lady Bulldogs improved to 9-1 on the season, 4-1 in Section 5AAA with two wins over the Magic and St. Cloud.

Becker 86, Cathedral 83

Last Friday, Becker traveled to St. Cloud and defeated the Cathedral Crusaders 86-83 in an exciting Granite Ridge Conference game.

This back-and-forth game came right down to the wire.  It was a tale of teams with different strengths.  Becker struggled with Cathedral's inside play while Cathedral struggled with Becker's man-to-man full court press.   Cathedral out-rebounded Becker 43-40  and committed 19 turnovers to Becker's eight.

Freshman Adeline Kent led the way for the Bulldogs with 28 points, five rebounds, four assists, and two steals.  Kent hit some key shots down the stretch for Becker to key the win.

Julia Bengtson scored 15 points, four rebounds, six assists and had two steals.

Dani Nuest sparked the Bulldogs off the bench, scoring 14 points on 7-for-8 shooting.  Courtney Nuest, Dani’s older sister, scored 11 points to go with eight rebounds.

Megan Gamble had 11 points and seven rebounds, connecting on 5-for-5 shooting from the free throw line and hitting two clutch foul shots in the last minute.

Cathedral was led by 6'4" post player Celine Schoenecker, who scored 31 points to go with eight rebounds.

“Celine was very tough to stop in this contest,” said Becker Head Coach Dan Baird. “She has vastly improved over the past year.”

Megan Voit played excellent as well, scoring 21 points, snagging eight rebounds to go with two assists and two steals.  Voit was 5-for-10 from the three-point line.

Megan Januschka added 20 points, seven rebounds and seven assists.

Cathedral fell to 4-5, 2-2 in the conference.  These two teams meet again Jan. 8 in Becker for another important Granite Ridge Conference tilt.

Becker scoring:  Kent 28, Bengtson 15, Dani Nuest 14, Courtney Nuest 11, Gamble 11 and Alayna Lindquist 7.

Cathedral scoring:  Shoenecker 31, Voit 21  Januschka 20, Maya Van Erp 5, Hallie Hupf 3, Gabby Heying 2 and Abbey Medelberg 1.

Bulldogs 85, Magic 38

Becker swamped the Magic, 85-38 at the Monticello Tournament Thursday night in Monticello.

The Bulldogs shot really well in this contest, hitting a high percentage of their shots.  Becker came out with a lot of energy right from the start, which was one of their keys since they've had some slow starts lately, Coach Baird said.

Becker was again led in scoring by Adeline Kent's 21 points.  Courtney Nuest added 18 points and five rebounds and Bengtson scored 13 points while playing great defense on Anna Olson — holding the Magic dominant post to 16 points.

Cat Terres added 11 points for the Magic.

The win moves Becker to 9-1 overall, and 4-1 in Section 5AAA.  Monticello falls to 5-4 overall and 2-2 in the Section.
