BECKER GUARD ALISON CIESLAK (on floor) went hard to the floor and took St. Francis’ Emma Eastman with her as they scrambled for a loose ball. The game was physical, but Becker prevailed with a four-point win last Saturday at home.

Girls Bb Team Just A Half Game Out Of First With Two Big Wins

The Becker Lady Bulldogs improved to 11-6 (7-2) with two big wins this past week. The win over Milaca gives them an impressive 7-2 mark in the Granite Ridge Conference, just a half a game out of first place (Albany).

Five players scored in double figures for Becker Monday night in their win over Milaca, 69-52.
 
Whitney Raygor led the way with 14 points, Mauren Thiesen had 13, Carlee Kobow and Allison Cieslak had 12 and Amanda Lindsay had 10 for the Bulldogs.
Molly Banks and Makayla Paggen each scored 11 points for the Wolves.
 
Becker led by just six points at halftime (26-20) but turned up the juices in the second half, scoring 43 points to Milaca’s 32.
 
Becker Scoring: Raygor 14, Mauren Thiesen 13, Cieslak 12, Kobow 12, Lindsay 10, Ashley Neuwirth 5 and Maesyn Thiesen 3.
 
Milaca Scoring: Banks 11, Paggen 11, Dahlstrom 9, Beaver 7, Cassens 5, Ploeger 4, Forker 4 and Terpstra 1.
 
Bulldogs 55, Saints 51
 
In a game that was challenged by both teams in a back-and-forth affair, the Bulldogs pulled out a close win over the feisty Saints of St. Francis last Saturday on their home court.
 
Cieslak led all Bulldog scorers with 12 points and Becker got scoring from seven different players. 
 
St. Francis was led by Taylor Snelling with 15 points while Sarah Cullen knocked down 14 in the loss.
 
Becker trailed the Saints at halftime, 26-24.

Saints Scoring:  Snelling 15, Cullen 14, Sammie Zgutowicz 9, Molly Kungel 6, Ameh Ogbemudia 4, Emily Hewitt 2 and Emma Eastman 1.
 
Friday night, the Bulldogs took on the first place Albany Huskies at home (full report on game in next week’s Citizen), then host three more games next week including a 7:15 p.m. game against Holy Family Catholic Monday, a 7:15 p.m. game against Monticello Tuesday and a 7:30 p.m. game against Mora Friday.
