Each year, several Becker student athletes are awarded the GEL Scholarship in honor of the late Jerry Lindbom. This year, four talented athletes are claiming the scholarship - Allison Hendrickson, Jordan Gruenes, Jalissa Johnson, and Ethan Holm.
Allison Hendrickson
Allison graduated from Becker High School in 2018 with a 4.0. She was captain for cross country and track and field for two years.
Her goals for the years to come include completing her Movement Science undergrad, with a Psychology minor, at Winona State University before moving on to graduate school to earn a doctorate degree in Occupational Therapy. She plans on specializing in pediatrics once in the career field. While at Winona, she’ll continue to compete in cross country and track and field, with the goal of becoming a team captain.
Jordan Gruenes
Jordan graduated from Becker High School in 2019. Jordan graduated at the top of his class with a 4.0. He was involved in soccer, cross country, and track and field. He was the captain of the scoccer team for two years and the track team for one year.
He is attending the University of Minnesota Duluth, where he is working for his mechanical enineering degree. He intends to graduate in 2023. As the student representative for his track team, he would like to work in a leadership role in the Student Athletic Advisory Committee helping to give student athletes a greater voice in terms of legislation of the NCAA or proposals that affect college athletes.
Jalissa Johnson
Jalissa graduated from Becker High School in 2018 with honors. In high school she was on both the swim team and basketball team. She joined the University of Minnesota Morris swim team her freshman year of college. This year will be her 3rd year on the team. Her favorite event is the 200 freestyle. Last year she made it to finals in two individual events at the championship meet. She is a biology and pre-vet major.
Her future goals are to become a veterinarian. She will be starting her Junior year and will start applying to vet schools this year.
Ethan Holm
Ethan graduated from Becker High School in 2018. He was involved in student council for four years, Nathional Honors Society for three years, basketball for three and a half years, and track and field for four years. He was the captain of track and field team and a three-time letter winner for track. He is currently on the University of Sioux Falls track and field team as a heptathlete and decathlete.
His future goals are to follow in the footsteps of past athletes of the University of Sioux Falls and leave his mark on campus by bettering his performances on the Top-10 list and potentially hitting a school record in the decathlon or the heptathlon during his time there. Academically, he is a Biology major and a Chemistry minor with goals of going to graduate school to pursue medicine. He is looking at the fields of anesthesiology and orthopedic surgery.
