The Becker Dazzlers dance team submitted four nominations (two for kick and two for jazz) to the Minnesota Association of Dance Teams (MADT) All-State Committee for consideration on this year’s All-State Team.
Teams are required to send in video of athletes in competition from the current season. Those entries are then reviewed by a panel of head dance team coaches from throughout the state of Minnesota before selections are made.
Last year, the Becker dance team had two dancers selected to participate at All-State Dance Performance (Madison Anderson and Lindsey Baloun). This year, the team has increased that number to four dancers (the maximum number one team can nominate).
Baloun and Mikayla Henkemeyer were named to the All-State team in kick. Ali Bloom and Heather Sanders were named to the All-State team in jazz.
Baloun, Bloom, Henkemeyer and Sanders have been invited and will perform at the 2015 MADT All-State Dance Show Saturday (Mar. 14) at 6:30 p.m. at Wayzata High School.
Once athletes are selected, they are e-mailed videos of either a kick or jazz routine and a finale routine that they are responsible to learn before they arrive for All-State.
They will also choreograph a short routine they will perform together during introductions at the beginning of the show. Selected dancers from all over the state of Minnesota will be put into formation and practice together as one large group for the first time the morning of the show. That evening they will perform their routines in front of family, friends, coaches and fans.
Though the high school competitive dance season is officially over for the year, this is an opportunity to see some of the best dancers in the state perform one last time.
“The coaches are very excited to have four dancers selected to represent our team this year,” says Coach Julie Baloun. “It is a great opportunity for these girls to perform on one of the biggest stages for high school dance in Minnesota. It is also a great opportunity to showcase how far Becker dance program has come.”
